that's an interesting point. according to AI the United States produces about 22% of world oil and consumes about 18% of world oil. if this is true we should be able to weather the oil shortage.
actually the richest city in America by GDP per capita is a little town in Texas where OIL companies are ... richer than NYC and San Francisco
unfortunately that does NOTHING for the petrodollar.
we still have to defeat Iran or our empire is finished.
as you know i don't care about gas prices. my plug in hybrid has 20 miles of electric only range which is more than all of my errands except barber shop which is a 25 mile round trip ...
assuming one haircut a month that's 5 miles a month on gas at 30 mpg which means TWO GALLONS PER YEAR
in practice i turn the engine on every trip just to make sure it gets exercised because otherwise if it is not used enough it may go bad but still a single tank lasts me for months ...
in fact gasoline has a shelf life of 3 to 6 months so maybe i will need to lean more on the "power mode" which forces the engine to run to avoid the gas in the tank getting stale.
when i originally got the PHEV ( plug in hybrid ) i was using quite a bit of gas because my commute wasn't optimized for it. i had a 50 mile round trip to LifeTime Athletic and 35 mile round trip to Costco. but overtime as i adjust where i shop and train my gas use has gone down to almost nothing to the point where it is now a legitimate concern that the gas in the tank may spoil by exceeding shelf life of gasoline.
i am counting on my mother visiting to help me burn some of that gas in the tank by driving to airport and other places.
one solution would be to only fill up the gas tank to about 1/4 instead of to full then it would get used up quicker and not spoil but there was recently a chance of hurricane forming and i was afraid that gas would get sold out from panic buying so i filled up the tank to full in case i need to evacuate ...
this was weeks ago and the tank STILL SHOWS FULL
