Today is Intersex Awareness Day. It's been two years since I accepted I am intersex. I don't have anything clever to say about it.
Yes I had unnecessary surgery when I was little. Doctors lied to me for years. Yes, I was taught my body was shameful. Yes, I had severe medical problems because treating my health needs would have required conversations no-one wanted to have.
But I don't feel angry about any of it. I just feel numb. I should feel angry. When I hear the horrors that have been inflicted on other intersex people, I still feel numb.
I try to perform the anger I don't feel. It just seems the right thing to do.
