🔺 IRGC shoots down U.S. drone over Iranian territorial waters, unveils new missile-armed naval vessel
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced two significant military developments Saturday:
🔸 The IRGC said it shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone it described as attempting to carry out a “hostile operation” in Iranian territorial waters, saying it was “immediately detected and targeted by the Revolutionary Guard’s modern defence missiles.” U.S. Air Force officially retired the flagship MQ-1 Predator drone in 2018. However, an upgraded, heavily modified variant known as the MQ-1C Gray Eagle remains in active service with the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. It’s unclear whether the drone allegedly downed was a U.S. operated aircraft or use by one of its Gulf allies.
🔸 Iran unveiled its newest fast attack vessel, named “27 Rajab,” capable of speeds up to 100 knots (185 km/h) and equipped to launch long-range cruise missiles. The craft was presented at a ceremony in Tehran’s Enqelab Square and described by Fars News as “a new symbol of Iran’s maritime military capabilities.” (Video attached)
