I drove a German rental van through central London a few years back. Just over a year later, I received my first notification of a fine. It was a €6,250.00 fine (no joke) for driving through the congestion zone twice and then not paying on time. No customer helpline. I spent the next few days online scrolling through forums to find out if I actually had to pay it. The van was compliant, but because it had foreign plates, they just automatically assumed it was not. I contested it and got off with a warning. Total insanity. You’d think London would be a ghost town, but the traffic is worse than ever there.
