I rather like the idea of wastebasket taxons, as long as it's understood that's what they are. It's a way to state what we don't know which can be as important as emphatically stating we know something rather than admitting it's a bit of a guess. The genus Sarcophaga in Sarcophagidae was used like this for years, although the species I worked on, bullata, ended up in it after lots of revisions anyway! 😂
