Cloudflare has published a useful breakdown of how it responded to the Copy Fail Linux vulnerability, CVE-2026-31431.

The important bit: this was not just “patch and hope.” They reviewed exposure, validated behavioural detections, hunted for signs of exploitation, rolled out runtime mitigation, and moved patched kernels across their fleet.

They also say there was no customer impact, no customer data at risk, and no service disruption.

For anyone running Linux servers, self-hosted services, containers, CI runners, or shared systems, this is the real lesson: patching matters, but visibility matters too. You need to know what your systems are doing before a crisis lands.

Patch your kernel. Follow your distro’s official advisories. Be careful with random “fix scripts” floating around.

What does your Linux update routine look like right now?
