places I have lived, for the most part, such as NYC, Valencia and Barcelona, I really didn’t feel like I needed to worry much about safety. A benefit of highly trafficked places. But sometimes if traveling, it can be a different story.
Or the not safe is because of cars. Even last weekend running in Tarifa, Spain - zero concern over crime but it was pitch black on the return from my run along side of highway, and that wasn’t optimal.
