Been a bit slack in posting my thoughts on books recently!

Here are my thoughts on the latest.

Fractal Noise
By Christopher Paolini

I wasn’t disappointed with Paolini’s foray into Sci-fi. This book is very different and not just in terms of genre but also in its (almost) singularity of scenery and minimal characters. Unlike his fantasy novels (Inheritance series), which feature vast worlds, people and places, this book is pared back to the essentials.

Much of the novel takes place on a desolate planet and involves an arduous trek. It’s gruelling, and not just for the characters but also for the reader. Paolini manages to convey the fears, emotions and anxieties of his characters so well that it pushes you to keep reading, if only to relieve yourself of those feelings.

There are a few Easter eggs in the book - nods to other authors and also, surprisingly, to Bitcoin.

I’ve found it’s one of those books that you enjoy more a week after finishing, letting the ending and the concepts percolate.
