This is an essential point from the book, *Who Moved My Cheese*.
I've been through this process a couple of times in my career (I'm old) and you see the same reactions from people play out over and over again.
Some freeze and never really recover.
Others take it as an opportunity to move on to some new and perhaps better.
AI has remade the work of working in computer science and algorithms more exciting than it's been for since forever. Colleagues of mine are over the moon with the potential advances that can be made now in research and applications. Hopefully it will last for a time. If not, though, so it goes.
But if your job was just implementing software and maintaining systems then, yeah, that field is pretty much cooked now.
