I was a good lawyer as long as I was left alone to work on lawyer stuff. I never was. Lawyers (especially insurance lawyers like me) are expected, not only to work with other lawyers, but also do a ton of corporate schmoozing and link-forging. I hated that and was dreadful at it.

Eventually the choice came between my career and my sanity, and I chose sanity. I went to work for a brewery and had enough time and energy for creativity again; first music, then writing.
