My bad, I thought it derived the npub from the ipv6 like Yggdrasil, so if the DNS resolution from the vpn was playing games we could just skip it.
Some iOS vpns like cloudflare 1.1.1.1 just provide the DNS service and that requires no extra permissions so maybe nostr vpn is just passing through the requests (or maybe it is just handling its own .nvpn names).
