"content": "Our second stop in Ķemeru nacionālais parks | Kemeri National Park was at Lielais Ķemeru tīrelis | Kemeri Raised Bog. A 3.5km loop boardwalk (📷1) traverses one of Latvia’s biggest and most popular raised bogs, which began forming some 8,000 years ago when the postglacial climate became warmer and more humid. Such bogs absorb large volumes of rainfall and melting snow, helping to mitigate flooding while also filtering the water—and creating pretty reflections/ habitats (📷2). Aside from sphagnum mosses (crucial in the formation of raised bogs) notable plants adapted to this environment included native Andromeda polifolia | bog rosemary (📷3) and the carnivorous Drosera rotundifolia | round-leaved sundew (📷4). We sat pond-side for a time, entertained by boatmen utilising surface tension to walk on water.\n\n🇱🇻 #europe #baltics #latvia #latvija 🚀 #travel 🚐 #camperVan #nomad #roadTrip #vanLife 🥾 #nature #nationalPark\n\nhttps://o.mastodon.nz/media_attachments/files/117/253/874/956/071/921/original/277e2c2875862748.jpeg\nhttps://o.mastodon.nz/media_attachments/files/117/253/875/654/009/538/original/f724824697185f1f.jpeg\nhttps://o.mastodon.nz/media_attachments/files/117/253/876/056/564/072/original/9be313aa4d04ebbc.jpeg\nhttps://o.mastodon.nz/media_attachments/files/117/253/876/640/751/785/original/7f3162ccef271a1a.jpeg",
