That's essentially where I landed. Defederating doesn't affect Zuck much (aside from possibly claiming to be the victim?), but it does remove a chance for people currently in the walled garden to peek over the hedge. I don't think I've had any interaction with threads accounts yet personally, but if it does seem to be toxic I'd have no hesitation in blocking (and supporting a site-wide action). I'd like to give people a chance first though.
