The humor aside- we knew that our patient population was white, upper middle class, as primarily liberal young people whose parents had the means to bring them to a pediatric gender center.
Where that humor comes crashing down for me was in the spike in 18-21 year old black young men who had experienced years of homophobic abuse, who were feminine and sought to medically transition because it was a way out of that abuse.
