I think there is a big difference in privilege between those from multi-generational middle class families, and those who are first or even second generation middle class.

I have been an undergraduate, a postgraduate and an academic, at Bristol, Southampton, Warwick and Cambridge. I have also spent 20 years working in industry. I went to a comprehensive school and although state school kids exist at those unis, many of them were actually from selective grammars.
