I know that St. John the Baptist Parish maintained an elected multi-racial Republican government after Reconstruction was winding down, and the neo-Confederate State gov't in Baton Rouge sent in troops with gatling guns to massacre them.
I'm frustrated when I see articles like this calling something similar in North Carolina "When White Supremacists Staged the Only Successful Coup in U.S. History"
