This holiday used to be a time for people to come together, to celebrate as a nation. I remember my father being in parades, and being proud to see him there.
Those are blessed memories. I'll always cherish them.
Tonight I just stayed inside, keeping our cats calm with gentle music and warmth. We toasted to 250 years of the promise of freedom, with the hope that sometime in the next 250 years we might actually achieve it for everyone.
