Fan art is better for popularity. Oc drawning is better to build relationships with other artists. You want to please the masses our you want to show apritiation of an artist work and with that taking a step to have a better relationship with them. Basically the question you want to be an artist stand alone or take this small initiation to build relationships for collaborations and such? Different tools for different goals.
