A few years ago GW released contrast paints, which caused some controversy. Contrast paints can x3 the speed at which miniature painters paint models. But the cost is that those painted models don't look as good as models paint by top tier painters, and have a different style to what was considered "good" by many people at the time. People used them because they weren't great painters and constrasts were better, or because they wanted painted armies that contained 100+ models in a short time.
