Consensual non-monogamy is very much preferable to non-consensual non-monogamy. Frankly, I consider anyone hiding sexual partners from each other, or even sexual history, to be engaging in rape. Consent is not consent unless fully informed.
If you're in a situation where you feel you need to engage in that kind of secrecy for safety reasons, then you can argue innocence by way of duress. Nothing is ever cut-and-dry.
