Staring at the output of a random number generator also has the potential to change what someone rationally believes, but I doubt you have a problem with ending an RNG session.
I propose that the potential to get something productive out of a conversation is not sufficient. Instead, a person should have an actual reason to expect something productive will come out of the conversation, and the moment a person no longer rationally expects something productive is the exact moment it is rational to exit.
