Most people, and especially most Americans, these days don't want freedom. They may say freedom but what they mean is a dictator who agrees with their positions and oppresses other people to benefit them.
America loves to brag about ending the Holocaust with a straight face. Meanwhile we all pretend we didn't do the same shit to the indiginous tribes, blacks, Chinese, Japanese, and everyone from Latin America actively right now.
It is clearly a losing game. They've already had to accept that Irish and Italians are white to keep the numbers up enough for the racism to not get toppled. Then the KKK had to publicly say that your hate was what was important not blood purity when all their members ran to 23 and me to prove how pure they are and found out they were descendants of slave rapists. Who is next?
