..is because of the need to make room in the mix for a minimum of gas, nuclear, hydro etc… to provide the inertia to stabilise the grid. As discussed yesterday, the need for mechanical inertia is being designed out of the grid by building new renewables with so-called “grid forming” inverters to make the alternating current reliable. So-called “green inertia” will mean we can soon do without having to connect gas power stations when there is more than enough wind and solar.
