My wife boils batches of eggs and puts them in the fridge. She likes them too runny to be sliced and put on toast. I've tried to boil them some more.

You may think that if you boil an egg for 7 minutes, cool it to fridge temperature, then boil it another 3 minutes, you will get a 10-minute egg with a solid yolk.

You do not. It's still a 7-minute egg. To get a 10-minute egg, you have to boil it for 7+10=17 minutes total.
