The other scary thing is that just because you can afford a house doesn't mean you can afford a house.
I had to replace a water line this year, dug up the entire front yard. I live under my means so I was able to swing it even though it hurts like hell. How many people can technically afford the house but if anything goes wrong with it they just have to jump in a river?
