oh man.
Our town was told by our state that it's invalidly maintaining property values at unrealistically low levels (probably true) and must reassess EVERYONE. It did so. Some people have had property here for 30, 40, 50 years and are really not happy that their appraisal suddenly jumped to 2025 numbers. Others of us bought property at 2021 et seq prices and are really not happy that we are being appraised as though some sort of magical value-add fairy has added a third more to what we could sell for, against recent professional appraisal or reason.
We were all directed to "grieve, in writing, delivered in person" TODAY, and because our town is tiny and extremely ridiculous (company town of very wealthy marble mine benefactor/extractor), this took place in an unrealistically ornate and slightly crumbly drawing room.
I have now spent an hour of my life I will never get back witnessing our across-the-river riche neighbors HAVING A FIT.
This is as New Englandy as it gets up here. 😅
