Where we're at:
I'm sent to help with a class of grade 4s doing math. Their regular teacher is pulling random names and asking those kids to name the 4 operations in math (add, subtract, multiply, division). Some are confident, some struggle. Teacher decides to ask every single kid. Even though they all heard the answers over and over again, about one third of the class did not have the working memory to list the four operations.

(My sense is that they did know the four operations and would recognize them in a math question. The problem was organizing the information into a list - most students said three and then named one a second time because they had already forgotten what they'd said.)
