so after beind nerdsniped re the origin of apropos: it appears to have arrived in Unix with Bill Joy's man implementation in 2BSD, in 1979. but Joy was certainly aware of Lisp - indeed, Berkeley gave the world Franz Lisp, written in C for Unix, in 1980 - and i'm almost entirely sure that Lisp Machine Lisp already had apropos when the first Chinual was published in 1976
