Anyone familiar with John M Blatt "Dynamic Economic Systems" (1983).
My German colleague is reading this while waiting for his child to be born any day now, and sending me tidbits. I skipped the intro and read chapter 2, it's very nice in a way that most Econ books I've skimmed or read are decidedly not.
