Generally I don't see anything at all being done about it other than most people hiding their heads in the sand and pretending the problem doesn't exist. The problem is pretty much an admin problem. The way Mastodon works any racist admin can hinder the experience of every BAME person federating to their instance, silence them, and make them choose to go elsewhere.
There's absolutely no safeguards in Mastodon for the very example I wrote about below.
