E ainda esses mesmos revolucionários dizem temer a censura.
🇺🇲 The images from Sunday’s pro-Lula rally on Paulista Avenue should be embarrassing to any defender of democracy: hooded activists, a burning U.S. flag, graffiti calling for revolution, and chants of “Fire the fascists!” Is this the freedom they claim to defend?
Sections of the left, influenced by Marxist-Leninist movements, speak of overthrowing “fascism” while advocating a political project that—counting the Lula and Dilma administrations together—has already held power for nearly two decades. A revolution to keep Lula in power? And anyone who disagrees is labeled a fascist, harassed, and treated as an enemy to be eliminated—precisely using the fascist methods they claim to fight. The paradox is shameful.
They burn the American flag while a hooded protester raises the Palestinian flag. Where is the outrage against Hamas, which has massacred Israeli civilians and represses and kills Palestinians? Where are the rights of women and LGBTQIA+ people when it comes to condemning Islamist authoritarianism?
And yet these same “revolutionaries” claim to fear censorship. Nothing could be more appalling, given that they are the ones who do not defend the rights of those who think differently. The democracy they champion demands conformity, hegemonic thinking, no alternation of power, and imprisonment and death for the opposition. Shouting “Fire on the fascists!” while hiding one’s face is the typical act of dictators and tyrants who normalize intimidation, plunging society into a spiral of terror and fear.
Thucydides, in recounting the coup d’état in Athens, left a warning:
“And none of the other citizens, out of fear, offered any further opposition, seeing that the conspirators were so numerous; but if anyone did oppose them, he would suddenly die under suspicious circumstances, and the suspects were neither investigated nor punished. The people remained calm and were so terrified that those who had not suffered violence already believed they were winning, even though they were forced to remain permanently silent…”
None of these protesters were arrested or investigated. And that speaks volumes….
