In fact, a political office holder who is an ally with the people would put *themself* in difficult positions. They would make choices that mean they don't get re-elected. They would be willing to face the issues that arise from being seen to be too aligned with dangerous rabble-rousers.

Anyone worth voting for is willing to serve only one term if that's what working towards their goals leads to. Honestly, anyone worth voting for should be willing to go to prison.
