Gardeners, a question: I have some shady spots where I'm considering planting mint, on the thinking that the shade will help check it's unruly growth. I don't have a lifestyle that supports potted plants because I have always got family travel in summer, so things need to be in the ground or not in the garden.

It's not in the vegie patch, so it won't threaten that. It's near, but not directly under, some fruit trees. It's solid shade, except when it's overcast but sunny enough for refracted light.

I have Vietnamese mint growing under the fig, shaded most of the year, and it has managed to thrive without spreading wildly there.

Is this a good plan, or mad?

For clarity: I am not asking if it will grow. It definitely will. I'm asking if it will grow too much.
