obsidian's biggest strength and flaw is its customisability - it's an electron app with a pretty open API, and you can tweak whatever you want with some JS or CSS

I'm sure you could tweak the layout to have the notes list more pronounced, that seems to be the easiest problem to fix from the ones you mentioned. Also, there's plugins to automatically name your notes based on the creation time for example, so you don't have to name them if you dont want to

It being just a bunch of files has the advantage that if obsidian ever shuts down (or has server issues or whatnot), you'll still own all your notes in a standardized format. Also, every once in a while I'm writing some more technical notes, and being able to open my vault in an IDE and having all the tools I'm used to is handy

I haven't used the official sync yet, but I've had my vault in a OneDrive folder in the past, and recently switched to using SyncThing to sync between my devices (phones and PCs) and while it's not instant, the sync usually happens in 5-10 seconds, that's fast enough for me - once again, it takes a bit of work to set up, but you have the flexibility to do it however you want
