There are 2 types of Rokusai Nenbutsu.
The monk Dōkū (道空) preserved the dance's original form with his Hoshina-dera style (干菜寺系), whereas the Kūya-dō style (空也堂系) created spectacle from Muromachi times by incorporating Noh, Kyōgen, folk songs and other entertainment.
