How serious is France about destroying the U.K.?
Enough to fire warning shots "at the BBC," some boat which also had a MP (Shadow Home Secretary) on it.
Seriously, you can hear it during the video, and, yeah, that's how small arms fire sounds at a distance.
NATO is a farce today, albeit France was never happy about the whole thing. See second link, and quoting from it:
"In 1967, following de Gaulle's decision, all of NATO's 30-odd bases in France (consisting mostly of U.S. forces) were evacuated, along with 27,000 troops and 37,000 civilians. NATO headquarters left les Yvelines and moved to Belgium."
Did not know the latter. But this provided perhaps LBJ's finest moment. Over the objections of Dean Rusk, his Secretary of State', LBJ ordered him to ask "does that include American cemeteries?"
De Gaulle of course had no answer he was willing to voice.
