hot take: british power plugs are overrated
european plugs provide the same safety while being less overengineered and more structurally sound
this door mechanism the UK plugs have are a weird solution to ensuring that ground connects first, EU plugs solve it by being sunken into the outlet and having the ground be contacts that extend along the walls of the plug, no need for fancy mechanics to open doors
UK plugs provide no support for pressure from the side, if something strong enough rams against them and they break off from the prongs you got exposed metal
once again, EU plugs solve that by having a hole they go into, that way its supported by the wall and is less likely to break off, and if it does break off its still surrounded by the plug material and wont be just bare prongs stuck in the wall
also because of the way EU power cables are often designed they usually fall to the side when laying on the ground so you're less likely to step on the prongs of the plug
