On yesterday morning's group bird hike at a nearby nature area, I saw an American elm (Ulmus americana) tree. About 25 feet tall.
Something I didn't expect to see, since American elms in the United States were devastated by Dutch elm disease.
The bird hike group leader explained American elms are still growing and not as common, but die relatively early (compared to before Dutch elm disease in the United States).
