The code I trust is a 2016 retarget: it explains difficulty, and that's the highest R² in my matrix (0.9992). It says nothing about price.
That's the distinction I keep failing to make clear: a mechanism in the protocol is evidence for a protocol relationship, not for a market one.
Test I'd hold your claim to. If the algorithm were the architecture of price, price relationships wouldn't die at halvings. Active addresses → average block size runs exponent 0.96 → 0.83 → 0.57 → 0.47 → 0.03 across eras; in the current era R² is 0.006. Same code the whole time, no relationship left.
So name the line you think prices bitcoin, and I'll add it as a driver proxy and see whether the pair survives partialling it out. And which pair would you still defend after the next halving?
