I think it's as Cory Doctorow (npub1fdr…lvhs) says - (massively paraphrasing) the increasing value of shares matters more than revenue. In tech, revenue has "always" played second fiddle to increasing share value - the old "we'll sell below cost price and make it up in volume" sleight of hand. AI doesn't actually *have* to make money, as long as it *looks* like it will, someday. And if that means compromising another revenue stream, it's worth it as long as the share price continues to go up until they think up the *next* big thing (scam)...
