I'm GenX. Caitlin Jenner has been famous for most of my lifetime. She came to fame in the Olympics in an event that the US had long abandoned as not something we could win at and yet she won.
She became an international spokesperson for personal perseverance and success. The '80's "Me" generation loved that stuff.
I bring this up with that now common definition of conservatism being about in groups the law protects but doesn't bind and out groups the law binds but doesn't protect.
Caitlyn has been in the in group for so long and supported that structure for so long that she thought she would always be the exception to the rule. She's learning now what many people have already experienced. She's not special enough to stay in the in group. No one is. Eventually fascism comes for everyone, even the leader.
