Tornadoes are common in landfalling hurricanes because of wind shear as part of the storm's circulation.
The risk here might actually be being downplayed somewhat. While WeatherMesh-6 is the best model out there for storm track, we struggle to capture hurricane intensity (a problem with all weather modeling) and that translates to downplayed tornado risk in model output.
