If you're BIPOC then this has been the experience with law enforcement long before Trump's ICE, whether or not you've ever run afoul of "the law" (as opposed to "law enforcement"). Trump's ICE has only expanded this behavior out in the open, into places seen by privileged white folk.

Do you know how to really combat this? By standing up long before it reaches the last line of "then they came for...". By not waiting to say, "But they are American citizens!" and giving a fuck long before that ever becomes a question.

This is racist profiling. Trump didn't invent it, Trump just expanded it. If you were silent while this was going on, then your complicity helped to bring it to where it is now... but it's never too late to speak up!

Especially in "anti-immigration" Alberta. Especially in Edmonton, home of the highest police-involved deaths.

I stress that offending law enforcement is not the same as violating the law, and the second should never be assumed when marginalized populations are involved. There is no need to make up all the things that the kids "could" have done wrong to deserve arrest, any more than there is a need to justify military snipers taking pot shots at Palestinian children and doctors.

ESPECIALLY when OUR city police are going to Israel to train with the IDF, as ICE has also done.
