Probably my biggest source of ideas is just combining different techniques and seeing what happens. What happens if I apply a fisheye effect to delaunay triangles? What happens if I apply Simplex noise to distort a Hilbert curve? Throw in one more technique and the permutations get huge. It doesn't always work out, but sometimes it's amazing. Then, every new technique you learn is really like a few thousand possibilities.
