I wrote a blog post on Jabber/XMPP and 25 years of digital independence.
https://gultsch.de/posts/25-years-of-digital-independence/
It shares a title with my upcoming talk and touches on similar themes around open standards, collective ownership, and avoiding vendor lock-in. However, it is an independent essay rather than a written version of the talk.
