Sometimes when I look at a product, I genuinely wonder how it came to be. Be that really innovative or really tired, it must have some kind of an origin story.
Here's what I imagine happened at the Coca Cola company HQ:
The big boss: Everyone is releasing new and exciting variants of their sodas, I called you all into this brainstorming session to come up with something that will take the soda market by a storm! What do you got for us, packaging team?
Packaging team lead: Well we innovated this new packaging that's slightly bigger than a standard soda can!
The big boss stares at them disapprovingly.
The boss: Sigh, product team, what do you have?
Product team lead: Well we were thinking this blueberry-peanut butter-cucumber...
The boss: Wait, was it you lot who came up with the Coke Lime?
Product team: ... yes?
The bis boss presses a button in their dashboard, the whole product team gets ejected from the 80th floor.
The boss: Anyone else?
The intern: Sir... we could ... copy what everyone else is doing?
The boss: Now that's some initiative! Make it so!
And thus Coca-Cola Cherry Float was born. Doesn't really taste like cherry nor ice cream, just sweet Coke. #soda
