ECash in 1996 was technically beautiful - Chaum's blind signatures gave you unlinkability without the bank knowing what you spent. But it still required you to trust DigiCash's server not to double-spend. That's the exact problem PoW killed. Satoshi replaced trust in a corporation with trust in thermodynamics. EUnet integrating ECash was a real milestone. But when DigiCash went bankrupt in '98, every ecash token became worthless overnight. Bitcoin can't go bankrupt. The ledger isn't a company. That's the actual invention.
