Depends on your situation. Do you get frequent short interruptions? Frequent long ones? Generally unreliable power quality?
I would generally buy a UPS capable of continuing just long enough to ride over your most frequent short drops, and shut down as soon as it goes over the average length. But if your electricity is usually down for 15 minutes or more, I would only want enough capacity to shut down reliably.
