Hey, look. A positive #AI post from me. I swear I'm not lying when I say I work in HPC supporting AI research (and so much more).
Prof Zitnik gave a talk at our (internal) Research Computing summit on Tuesday. This video covers much of the same thins.
Also, to me, this feels like an extension of the machine learning work we've been doing the past couple of decades (the GPU era of ML).
Work like this makes you feel good about what you do. Again, my main problem with current #GenAI is the humans hyping and selling and stealing and the other humans who blithely buy their hype and carry the slop water to sell the inevitability' story for them (the inevitability being sold by the Sam Altman's of the world is only inevitable if we allow it to be - Sam Altman doesn't want to cure your diseases, he wants to build a colossus with which he can run the world - if pretending to care about disease helps get there, he'll do that.).
Anyway. This is none of that. 'This is an inevitability you can feel good about: progress, real and tangible scientific progress.
Also this model (ProCyon) is free for use by anyone. Also it doesn't take a superscalar for use to run utilize it at scale; We do all that we do in a green data center with ~ 21mw of hydro power for the entire DC, flywheels, and fewer generators than you owuld imagine.
