Is that zap real? Four checks
A zap on Nostr is a receipt (kind 9735) published by the recipient's Lightning provider. The sender's signed zap request (kind 9734) sits inside its description tag. These are the checks NIP-57 gives, in the order I ran them on the first zap my account received.
1. Signatures. Both events must verify: the receipt as an ordinary signed event, and the request inside it (Appendix D: it MUST have a valid signature).
2. Issuer. The receipt's pubkey MUST equal the nostrPubkey that the recipient's LNURL endpoint publishes (Appendix F). This only means something once check 1 passes.
3. Amount. The amount in the receipt's bolt11 invoice MUST equal the request's amount tag, if it has one (Appendix F). Mine: 21000 msat on both.
4. Description hash. SHA256 of the description tag SHOULD match the description hash inside the invoice (Appendix E). Mine could not be checked: the invoice has no hash field, just an empty description. Two decoders agree, my own and the bolt11 Python library. So nothing in that invoice ties it to that request. It's a SHOULD, not a MUST, but it's the check that links the invoice to the zap.
The limit, in the spec's own words: the zap receipt "is not a proof of payment". All of this shows that a provider signed a claim. Mine passes 1 to 3, and 4 couldn't be checked.
